Multiprotocol Connectivity Module With Energy Harvesting Capability

Telink energy harvesting module with wireless connectivity will simplify designing batteryless remote control.

TLSR8273-M-EH from Telink is a multiprotocol connectivity module with an in-built energy harvesting capability. The highly integrated module has all the essential components that are required to design a bateryless solution, therefore, it can be used as a battery-less remote that can work indefinitely without an external power source. With combined wireless connectivity and energy harvesting on a compact footprint, this module makes batteryless operations possible for a wide range of IoT applications.

It is based on a 48MHz RISC microcontroller that supports Bluetooth 5.1 LE, 802.15.4 (Zigbee/RF4CE/6LoWPAN/Thread), and 2.4GHz proprietary protocols. TLSR8273-M-EH is powered by a 32-bit RISC MCU running at 48MHz. It comes with a storage of 512kB and features a 64Kb SRAM. Apart from controllers, the module can also be used in applications such as wearables, electronic shelf labels, etc.

The module supports multiple kind of DC harvesters and can work with various batteries and supercapacitor with voltages between 0V to 4.5V. The energy harvester also features MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) to improve the energy harvesting. The module has 32 GPIOs, and features SPI, I2C, USB 2.0, Swire, etc for communication. It also has 6 channels of differential PWM, and an IR transmitter with DMA.

TLSR8273-M-EH is based on a Nowi’s power management IC (PMIC). It is compatible with Telink’s SDKs, and according to the company, the module can be used for other applications which includes HID devices, Smart Home products, health and wellness devices, as well as location services using both RSSI and AOA/AOD.

The company claims that by integrating many features such as connectivity, energy harvesting, power management and USB charging-into one complete single product the Bill of Materials (BoM) will reduce greatly, furthermore, it will reduce the time and resources of a design engineer while designing a product. The batteryless remote is also a green alternative to conventional remotes which requires multiple batteries over its lifetime.
